How we build

How we build your pool – steps & timeline

What happens between the first visit and the first swim, who does what, and how long each part usually takes in the Birmingham area.

A new pool with Elite Pool Services goes through design, permit, excavation, structure, plumbing, finish and start-up. Vinyl and fiberglass pools go in fastest; a custom gunite pool can take up to about 12 weeks once the permit is approved. Weather, inspections and extras add time.

  1. Site visit & estimate

We walk the yard with you: access for equipment, slope, drainage, trees, utilities and setbacks. You get a written estimate that lists what is and isn’t included.

  2. 3D design

Pool, spa, steps, deck and features in 3D in your yard. Changes here cost nothing.

  3. Permit & HOA

We prepare drawings and pull the city permit. If your neighborhood has an HOA, we prepare the documents for its review.

  4. Excavation

Utilities are marked, the pool is laid out and dug with our own Bobcat. Careful digging matters – over-digging means extra work and material.

  5. Structure

Gunite: rebar cage, inspection, then gunite sprayed and cured. Vinyl: wall panels and floor. Fiberglass: base, crane set and backfill.

  6. Plumbing & electrical

Lines to the equipment pad, light conduits and bonding of everything metal – checked by the inspector before it is covered.

  7. Tile, coping & deck

Waterline tile, coping and the deck around the pool.

  8. Finish, fill & start-up

Plaster, liner or the finished shell, equipment connected, fill and water balance. We show you how everything works.

Good to know

What to expect during the build

Rain. Alabama springs are wet. Digging and gunite wait for dry ground; that is normal and keeps the structure sound.

Access. Equipment needs a path into the backyard. We protect what we can and repair the path at the end of the job.

Inspections. The city inspects at set stages – usually steel and bonding before gunite, and a final inspection. We schedule them.

Fence. Cities around Birmingham require a barrier around a pool. Plan it with the pool so the yard is ready when the pool is.

Communication. You will know who runs your project and how to reach them. Ask us anything along the way.

Timeline questions

When should I start planning for next summer?

Fall and winter. Design and permits take time, and the spring schedule fills fast.

Do I need to be home during construction?

No, as long as we have access to the yard. We will ask for you at key moments – the layout, finishes and the walk-through at the end.

What happens to the soil from the dig?

We spread it on your property where it makes sense or haul it away – it is part of the estimate.
