Cost guide · updated 2026
How much does an inground pool cost in Birmingham?

What makes one pool cost more than another
Pool type
Vinyl liner pools are the most affordable to build, gunite costs the most, fiberglass sits in between depending on the shape and access.
Size & depth
More water means more excavation, steel or panels, finish and equipment. A deep end for diving adds digging and safety requirements.
Your yard
Tight access, slopes that need a retaining wall, and rock under the topsoil all add work. We check this on the site visit.
Deck & coping
Often about 20% of the project. Broom-finish concrete costs least, travertine and natural stone more.
Extras
Spa, slide, waterfalls, bubblers, fire bowls, LED lights, heater or heat pump, automation, automatic cover.
Fence & permits
A barrier around the pool is required; permits and inspections are part of every project.

After it’s built: ongoing costs
Plan for electricity for the pump (a variable-speed pump cuts this a lot), chemicals or salt, water to top up in summer, and either your own time or a weekly service. Every few years there is maintenance: filter sand or cartridges, and later a new liner (vinyl, every 7–10 years) or new plaster (gunite, every 10–15 years). Fiberglass needs the least.
Financing can spread the cost of the build – see financing.
