Step by step

How it works

  1. Look & measure

We check the shell, tile, coping, deck, plumbing and equipment and tell you what really needs doing.

  2. Plan

Options with prices – from a basic refresh to a full remodel – and a 3D picture if the look changes.

  3. Renovate

Drain, demolish, rebuild. Most residential renovations take 2–5 weeks.

  4. Start-up

New plaster and liners need careful start-up chemistry. We handle it – or keep servicing the pool for you.

What we renovate most

Most of our renovation work in Birmingham is replastering gunite pools and replacing vinyl liners, often together with new tile, coping and a deck. Many pools here were built in the 80s and 90s; the shell is fine, but the plaster is rough, the tile is dated and the equipment eats power.

Bigger projects include converting a vinyl pool to gunite, adding a spa or tanning ledge, or reshaping steps. We have renovated a 66-foot concrete pool in Birmingham, the pool at the 4-H Center in Columbiana, neighborhood pools in Hoover and a complete transformation of a gunite pool in Warrior.

Done right underneath

A renovation is only as good as the prep. We remove old plaster completely instead of plastering over it, cut relief joints in coping and decks so they can move with the seasons, and check bonding and grounding of everything metal around the pool before it is covered up.

Elite Pools renovated and repaired our swimming pool. The pool is a vanishing edge pool with an in floor cleaning system with a lot of plumbing. It is a complicated set up. The cracks in the shell were repaired, the plumbing was repaired and it was replastered with new tile. It was a huge job.

Dave and the Elite Pool team did an amazing job with our aged pool of 30 years. They helped connect us with a restoration specialist (Thanks ETS Restoration) that corrected a few issues in our backyard prior to starting the pool work.

Questions

Pool Renovations: common questions

More pool questions
How long does a pool renovation take?

A liner replacement takes about a week of work once the liner is made. Replastering with new tile and coping usually takes 2–4 weeks; adding a new deck adds time.

When is the best time to renovate?

Fall and winter. The schedule is lighter, plaster cures well in cool weather and the pool is ready for spring.

Do you renovate commercial pools?

Yes – we have replastered community and commercial pools in Birmingham, Mobile and beyond.
